post-CUC ammonia spike: act now or ride it out?

Gah...

I added a new CUC (snails only) to my 27 gallon cube Monday evening. They came through the mail...

When I got home from work tonight, I found a couple big Florida ceriths dead. (They had never really "come to life" after shipping.) They were swarmed with other snails and gave off an odor when taken out of the tank -- I chucked them and immediately did tests.

I'm at:

Ammonia -- 0.25 ppm

Nitrite -- 0.0 ppm

Nitrate -- Less than 5 ppm

(My tank cycled a week ago, but my ammonia levels never got about 0.50 ppm, ever.)

So what now? I'm worried about my CUC. Should I do an immediate water change, or ride out the spike? My dwarf ceriths are moving around, seem to be okay...But if I need to move, I want to do it tonight.

I'm running carbon & floss in HOB, but my skimmer is in pieces on the floor...that WAS tonight's project.

Thanks!!!

Okay, did a 20% change...critters seem okay.

Also discovered the tiniest blue leg hermit crab stowed away among my dwarf ceriths. He is in GHA heaven right now, happier than a pig in slops.
