I have had this coral for 6 months. It has expanded quit a bit from the little frag I purchased. Problem is last 3 days he hasn't opened up. All the other corals are fine, my tests have come out great. I have a smaller Polyp coral that opens. Just wondering if he is dieing or just going awol for a bit lol..

If your water is testing normal I wouldn't worry too much. I believe they do this to allow debris to blow off their skeleton.

I just did my bi-weekly water change and they still closed. If they want debris off I can help them lol Turkey baster will do the trick

Gsp will close up for a couple of days it's normal, no need to worry. I read an article that suggested they close when they are spreading so energy is focused for reproduction. If they stay closed for longer than a week I would start to reevaluate

They are spreading. It started out as 1 inch frag now its like 8 inches x 4 inches. There is a small hammer coral near it but that has always been close.

Several inches away is a frogspawn coral

GSP is pretty bullet proof. That said, I could never get it to grow until I left it in a neglected tank that only saw water changes every 6 weeks...Gofigure.

I am on the other side of the fence. All of the gsp in my 3 different tanks only closes at night or when pissed about something. Keep an eye on those euphyllia that you have near it. Those guys will send out sweepers and tag nearby coral. I bet there is some warfare happening there and they are not winning.

Partially Submerged

Mine doesn't seem to close at night, but lately it's been closing for half days pretty often. It might be a response to the distilled water I use to top off the (very small) tank. But it's been growing and looks very healthy, so I'm not worried about it.
