Has anybody attempted to put a sump below the cabinet I haven't seen one myself, is the glass temped? Or something along those lines? Otherwise I'm sure I would have seen it somewhere Link to comment
BluCrab
forget all that.. ,the first thing I did was remove that false bottom in chamber two. Replace the return pump with a Colbalt MJ 1200, put a few nice size pieces of live rock in chamber 2 with cheato microalgae and a clip on Fluval clip (PC light) on a timer. with a small piece of filter floss where chamber one flows over into chamber two. Easy and cheap, you don't need those media baskets IMO. if anything toss a small bag of chempure Elite in the return chamber if need be. It's simple and I have mostly LPS,Zoas and a RBTA. I've seen one moded with a 10 gallon sump in the cabinet but it didn't look like it helped much IMO. Link to comment
Tamberav
I think having a sump or not depends on what you want to do with the tank. A zoa/softy/LPS tank would benefit less than a SPS dominated tank that also has a lot of fish/bioload. Kat has a custom sump but not sure if its in her cabinet or not: http://www.nano-reef.com/featured/_/2012/metrokat-r67 Link to comment

Will the flood catch the fish if they decide to go carpet surfing? Link to comment

farkwar
Make your life simple. Detached refugium. Get one of the on sale nano cubes with stands. You dont need fancy lighting, stock is fine. Set it up right next to your tank. Put all your refugium stuff in there, nice macros etc. When you do water changes, just put your tank water in the refugium. Refugium water change water down the toilet. There you go. Link to comment
