KeRogers
I recently moved and just started setting up my tank again. when I plugged everything in the light flickered and went out. the ballast started smoking and I turned it off. The light won't work at all anymore and I checked the fuse and it isn't blown. I tried to buy a new ballast assuming that was the problem but when I did I found out that I have the old ballast it has a 5 pin connector in a circle pattern. The new ballast has a 5 pin connector with a pin in the middle. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement ballast without buying a new hood? Link to comment
jestep
Shoot an email to JBJ. They're pretty good at getting back. I wasn't aware they switched plug configurations at any point. Link to comment
KeRogers
thanks for the advice. Their website said that I had to buy a new ballast and a hood so I wasn't even going to try and call them. When I did they said they still have some available. Link to comment

KeRogers
I replaced the ballast and it started working again. I noticed I still have a fan out though.I turned it off and a few minutes later turned it back on. the lights flickered and went out again. Did I already blow up another ballast? has anyone ever done this before? Link to comment
Horerczy
make sure the lamp is seated firmly in the fixture. sometimes they jiggle a little loose. Link to comment

KeRogers
yeah I am looking at the rapid led retro fit. debating between dimmable and non-dimmable. I don't know a lot about them though so I am not sure everything I need to get for the dimmable option. Link to comment
Horerczy
Dimmable. Leds are too strong for non dimmable nowadays. Link to comment
reefernanoman
Dimmable, your corals will thank you. Link to comment
12_egg_Omelette
What did you end up doing? I'm having the same problem with my nano cube. Link to comment
KeRogers
I ended up going with an LED rebuild. If you contact JBJ directly they still have some old models though. Link to comment
12_egg_Omelette
Yeah I contacted them. I ended up going with an AI nano. Link to comment
farkwar
That replacement ballast was made by the same people and made the same way that the one that blew up without popping the fuse was. Take some time, think about what that means.... Yeah I contacted them. I ended up going with an AI nano.Good. You thought about it. I was going to suggest a monitored alarm with smoke detectors. And better fire insurance. Link to comment
