jgaepi
I am cooking up an Acan island idea. I received a dry rock from ReefCleaners that would make a perfect island. Most of the mature Acans I have seen have a nice mounding shape. Mine are still small on frag plugs. If I glue onto the structure, I will prob lose the shape? Should I glue onto small rocks and then onto the structure? Thanks. Link to comment
tgore
Any chance you have a picture of the rock? Also some of my larger acan pieces "puff" out to the rounded look when they are actually uneven skeleton wise. Link to comment

It is about 7 in round and mostly flat with a baseball sized mound rising out the top. So I would mount Acans around and then put a colony sized Acan on the top. Weird but convenient shaped rock. jgaepi
Anyone else place/glue down Acans in an effort to produce that mounded shape. Sorta like this? I found this on the web but was a frag essentially glued to a small rock? Link to comment
jgaepi
Beautiful pix. I assume you mean that it is occurring naturally on the frag plug as opposed to mounting to a round object like a small rock? Link to comment
atrox
Either way I've gotten acans with or without plugs. You can either take em off the plug, snap the plug stem, or directly putty them too the rock. They will grow in a rounded pattern and then slowly flatten out as they encrust the rock. Link to comment
Skuba
Both these acans on the sandbed started as single heads I glued to a small flat rock and took the round shape on their own. Link to comment
tgore
I imagine they will mound up around the frag plugs and then kinda flatten out after that. I'm not a huge fan of the mounds. Link to comment
