Nudibranch? Burn tank now or later?

Found this guy in my tank. Looks like a nudi. Assuming a bad one. I removed him.

First time finding a nudi in a tank. Should I freak and burn the tank down???

When did you last add anything to the tank?

Just added an ORA Grube Gorg tonight. I gave it a good freshwater dip though. Would be surprised if he survived that.

Before that I added a couple sps a few weeks back.

I have had one Zoa colony that's been upset and closed for about a week

Could be a zoa eating nudi, or a monti nudi if you added one recently... or it could be some completely unrelated nudi that wont harm anything.

Almost looks like a bergia (sp?) nudibranch. I found one in my tank after adding a new coral attached to some live rock, and it seemed to stick around for a while. They only eat aptasia and I had none. I can't find it for a week or so, I assume it died, but the rest of my tank is fine. There is a potential for a "chemical weapon" to poison the tank if they die. No problems here it seems. (fingers crossed)

Good call on the Berghia. Just looked it up and that's a lot what this fella looked like. Bummer he is in the drain now. Won't find aptasia there.

Thanks for the help!

I hear they are brownish if they are feed, and turn pale white (almost bleached) when they do not have any food. Might want to kill it after that happens! :)

I’m not sure this is accurate. I picked up some berghia a little while ago that were roughly 1/4”. I have seen some that are about 1” now and they are white, even though they were chowing down on an aiptasia. The night after he finished off a good sized one, he was back and still really white in color. He is obviously eating, based on his size change and heaven knows they have enough forage in my tank right now...

I could be wrong, but it does not seem to me the color is from whether they have eaten or not, but I could be wrong… so take my words with a grain of salt.

That is a nudibranch I have seen come in on soft corals like leathers or colt corals. Definitely not Zoa or Monti eating, and certainly not Berghia. Removing it was wise.

How's the Monti doing- have you found any predators?

It seems to be doing ok. No growth but also no death. I think I have all of the Nudi's out of the tank now. That had to be what was eating at the flesh. Such a PITA.

All said and done I lost 2 corals to the Nudi's. A nice green monti cap with bright purple rim and a candy apple encrusting monti. Thankfully my reeftech starburt cap and sunsent monti look to be just fine.
