flobees
Hi all I am researching for my new tank starting in January.....can't start now as I am leaving for Asian in 4 weeks and won't be back till Christmas. I have an Acrylic tank 30 x 12 x12 with an AIO on the side. Got Nanobox Quad with Bluefish from Dave ( haven't got it yet ) hope its on it's way. And I am looking at getting the Sun Coral, so my question is when can I add this Coral? I know that it is not an easy Coral to care for but I am gonna try and take care of it as I love watching this Coral. All feed back will be appreciated. Thanks Flo Link to comment
hypostatic
its "difficulty" lies from the fact that you need to feed it several times per week, and that usually these corals will be starved by the time they get to you. other than that, suns are one of the hardiest corals out there -- they just can't survive without food. once your tank is ready for other corals its ready for sun corals. just make sure: you see that the sun is extending its polyps and not starved before you buy it in your tank, that its placed in a high-flow area where it can easily be fed Link to comment
Genie382
I recently got a dendro coral frag and when I purchased it, I made sure it's polyps were extended and happy. I spot feed it every morning and evening and I have yet to see it actually close up Link to comment
kimberbee
They are easy. You just have to remember to feed it a bit. The hardest part for me now is that, 3 months in, my hermit crabs have learned that my sun coral gets fed. They try to pull the food out of the sun coral which can cause damage. Link to comment
Genie382
+1 ^ My dendro gets harassed by my fish if I don't feed the tank or shoo them away... Link to comment
flobees
thanks everyone for your input i will be getting my sun coral when my tank is ready...)) not so scared about getting them now. I am retired and will have time to feed them and also have someone who is also into saltwater who can look after the tank when I am away. Can't wait to get my tank started. Flo Link to comment
kimberbee
Just ask if you have any specific questions! I LOVE my sun coral! It was actually hidden away in my BF's tank and I "rescued" it from him! I had been eyeing it long before I had my own tank! Link to comment
