txreef79
Hello fellow hobbyists! I have a 10 gallon nano tank that is now about 3 1/2 months old. Let me tell you what my set up is and a few questions I have. Set up with about 15 lbs live sand and 12 lbs live rock and R/O water mixed with reef crystals. I have the Orbit LED lighting, eheim heater, nano 420 for circulation and an aquaclear 50 (not pictured as I was just cleaning it). I did have 2 clownfish, now down to 1 and the one left was quite a bit larger and he is very aggressive biting my hand when I clean the tank. Not sure what happened to the other as I have never found him? I also have a tree coral I just moved from the bottom to the top of live rock as it did not seem to like the bottom and I have 2, 4-5 polyps of zoanthids sitting on the middle top of the live rock, they are very small frags I got for $5 and a small pulsing xenia on the bottom right. I probably added the corals to quick as my tank was only about a month old when I did but now I have them and would like them to grow. Do I need stronger lights? My water always checks out ok but my problem is I have what looks like the fuzzy algae on my live rock that was covered in purple coraline algae when I brough it home, now not so much. The one picture I posted is of what looks like some sort of long stringy something (how is that for technical). Bad or good? I also have hard white dots on my glass that scrap off easy, almost like calcium? I am open to suggestions to improve my tank and set up and am certainly open to critique and suggestions about my set up. I was thinking about running some carbon in my filter now as I have not yet as I was just using it for circulation. Thanks for tips, tricks and suggestions!! Working on attaching pics... charnelhouse
Long stringy something is aiptasia anemone I'm fairly certain. Bad. Link to comment
k4ndyk1ng
good luck and that is aptasia Link to comment
WickedBear
Two clowns would probably be stressed in such a small tank. I'm guessing your other clown just had enough one day and the other went carpet surfing or got killed somewhere else. If the clown is already territorial it will be hard to add anything else in your tank as she will want 25 gallons to herself. Link to comment
fragtal
From everything I've read so far (only recently returned to saltwater myself), that aptasia has to go. Do you have clean up snail/crab/shrimp at all? Link to comment
barkleylim
Any clean up crews inside your tank? I had my rocks covered heavily with brown algae after cycling for 3 months (pretty much like ur case but not these furry algae), by introducing a turbo snail into 7g, it cleaned up almost every parts of my rocks within a week. Begow
Oh the Aiptasia, neverrr fun! Link to comment
vlangel
Small hermits might help clean up some of that fuzzy stuff. Not too many in a 10g, maybe just 2 small ones. An algae eating snails is a good idea also. A peppermint shrimp might eat that aiptasia. Aiptasias reproduce like mad so I would eradicate it. Nicely scaped. Link to comment

txreef79
Thanks for the comments and suggestions. So, I took out the rock with the Aiptasia on it and when my wife was out burned it off over our gas stove as my propane torch was out of fuel. What she doesn't know can't hurt! Hopefully no others will show up. I am going to head to the lfs tomorrow and get a few clean up critters and will probably trade out my clown at some point. Thanks again! Link to comment
