seabass
Neat effect for a freshwater planted tank. I assume that's what people are commenting on. It would look out of place in a reef tank. Link to comment
jedimasterben
The issue is with flow in a marine tank, which is typically significantly higher than even in large freshwater systems, the sand will be blown everywhere. Link to comment
StevieT
I used to have a few in freshwater tanks, it was pretty bad ass. Link to comment

brandon429
in 1996 a company existed that sold these in petsmart I bought the dumping wine barrel version at the time it was the best ornament id ever purchased. replacement white reef sand made it work and I could put in twice the normal amount and get a really heavy pour. Then all of the sudden the went disco for no reason they didnt even have moving parts, they were simply perfect id have bought all of them in time. The $60 volcano sand fountain was sick. Han Solo
Would the sand not just accumulate at the bottom of the waterfall? Does it siphon the sand back up? Link to comment
brandon429
yes its the same effect as this, exactly: take any fw tank that has an undergravel filter mounted in an aquarium of polished epoxy stones notch a hole in that ugf tube right above the substrate pile up a bunch of fine reef sand over that hole and turn on ugf crap goes up the tube and out everywhere. like that, but slower and controlled down spray of the sand not just out sideways. controlled off bubbling and directing the sand down is what works, and slowing the amount of bubbles. StevieT
Steve t u should make some It's a pretty simple concept but better for freshwater. It used an air pump to move the sand yet that released air bubbles as exhaust. Which looks silly in SW tanks. I ran the exhaust through black acrylic tube so you could not see it so guess it's somewhat possible. My ciclids would go in the sand and spit it out but it was easy to put back in the supply during maintenance. It was an awesome effect, then I found coral and was like #### freshwater. This vid is probably the best I have seen. Nice and custom great landscaping effect. Link to comment
