I would love to have a dragon pipefish. Only problem is that my tank is only 3 gallons. I wanted it to be the only inhabitant besides corals. I'm sure this cant happen for many reasons but wanted to see what you guys thought.

The only way I could see this happening is if you decide to culture a large number of copepods to place into your tank every day for the pipefish to eat (this requires a separate tank/refugium setup). Pods are just way to expensive to purchase for feeding.

The only pipe fish that I am aware of that would possibly be happy if all of its feeding requirements (they are trainable to frozen and mine will even eat tiny pellets) and water quality needs were met would be the blue striped pipe fish. They do stay small. But you really need to have plenty of macro algae in there to give him somewhere to hunt. If you try it, it would be advisable to have a back up plan for the little fella if he seems stressed. Like a buddies larger tank etc..

They're a more active species however.
