saltnoob97
I did a water test on sunday and found my nitrates are at 30 ppm and thats high I am afraid it will harm my cleaner shrimp and or any snails I have! Its a 20 gallon tall with a simple hang on the back...I nees help on lowering my nitrates and another note my ph was lower than normal Link to comment
NorthGaHillbilly
if your cycle is over you should see high nitrates. Do a huge water change and all should get in check pretty quickly. Link to comment

Eckozulu
Do a 50% water change then test a day later. Wait 2 days and test again. You should be able to figure out how quickly your nitrates are rising by then. Post your numbers here and I'm sure people here will help u figure it out. Test kit? Live stock? How much rock/sand? How much you feed? Dosing? Anything dead/haven't seen in awhile? What you feed? What is your "normal PH"? How long has the tank been up? All questions people might ask. Link to comment
cju84
My nitrates have been between 20-40ppm for 3 weeks now and my snails/crabs are fine. I've also been struggling to lower them (no fish/corals yet) even with water changes. Link to comment
ETucc
My nitrates haven't been under 20ppm since like the first month of my tank's age... I've never lost any livestock. Stop freaking out! If you were that concerned, you should have waited to add the shrimp and CUC until your cycle was over and you tested your nitrates first... Link to comment
saltnoob97
Will having the lights off not allow growth of algae that feed off the nitrates? But I did a test today on nitrates only they seemed drop to around 20ppm that is with algae growth that wasn't there when the lights where off My cylcing has been done for a week before adding the shrimp but at the time the nitrates were under control Link to comment
