Hi Pico's-

I am hoping to hear more about who is dosing in there Pico's and who isn't.

If you are - What are you doing? Manual dose? ATO dosing? What chemicals? Which parameter are you going after?

If you aren't- Why not? (Please only comment if you've made a decision not to dose)

Thanks

Dosing is dangerous in a pico. Water changes on a regular routine of 10-20% or more are the way to go. Dosing is too difficult to control at such small amounts, and the smallest change could be catastrophic. No dosing.

(technically nano) I have to dose in about 2ml of ReefBuilder every couple days or my tank's alkalinity plummets. No idea why, and no stony corals present other than a pretty thick plating of coraline on most of the rockwork (which could be the reason in and of itself).

Bi-weekly 1-gallon water changes (on a 9-gallon tank w/~7-ish gallons of actual water volume) seem to bring everything else back into line, so for now no magnesium or 2nd part of 2-part or the like.

Coralline will sap alkalinity. I had the same problem on a 29 gallon biocube predominately soft coral tank. I ended up hiring a couple of urchins to consume it off the left glass pain and back wall and I now keep it as clean as possible. I also recommend at least weekly water changes depending on how stocked the tank is with coral/ livestock. On a heavy coral stocked nano your trace elements will get used up faster than you are replenishing them with biweekly water changes. While that might not hurt anything, it isn't going to help good growth and coloration.

I occasionally use a Marine Stabilizer made by Instant Ocean, but I don't really consider that dosing. Water changes are my main tool.
I have bottle of that never really knew if was good or not. what's your thoughts?

Majority of time, dosing will Be detrimental In a nano than actually help. My dumb self ( I knew it was going to be bad anyways but wanted to try) dosed a lot of Zeovit stuff: Coral Vital,Phols Xtra,B Balance,K Balance,ZS3,Zeo Food 7,Amino Acids,ZeoBak,Sponge Power which all were the BARE MINIMUM and some diluted, and it did more harm than good in a 2 gallon lol.

So,take everyone's advice and stick to regular water changes of 25-50%. You'll get your best results from that regiment.

I just use water changes and my coralline growth has gone crazy, 2 weeks and 50% of the barebottom is coralline

I saw that on your thread. Interesting

I too am only going to focus on water changes, especially during the first year.

I do intend to keep this tank as long as possible. Its an sps tank. With enough growth I could see a long term need to add something in but will cross that road when it comes.

I did just a couple things in my time, today I still have a full bottle of Amino Acid, Reef Snow, dont add any of this stuff you are just asking for trouble.

Funny, some people swear by it guess it's just to much to regiment for a tiny tank
