FTS 9/28/14

After breaking down my my 20L, spending some time at sea, and bouncing around research positions, I have finally settled down in Georgia to get Ph.D from Georgia Tech in Biology. When I signed on to the new lab my advisor/boss (also an aquarium head) gave me a 40B in the lab! I have started cycling the tank back in February, starting adding some livestock in april. I was running this this stuff I had laying around from older systems and what not ... alright enough chat its spec time:

Current set up

Tank: AGA 40B

Filter: Currently AC70 fuge mod - inTank insert

Lights: 2-AI sol blue

Skimmer: Seaclone (it was free, and I actually get it skim - its good for now)

Controller: Reefkeeper lite DA aquatics

Wavemaker: MP10 & Korallia 1

Up next:

Eshopps PF 300 overflow

Mag 5 return pump

two-little fishes reactor

25 gallon sump/fuge

It's about time!!! Glad to see you back up and running. Oh - and those ACANS - sweet!

I know … it took too long, I really did take my time getting this going. I'm not sure how many more acans Im gonna get here, LPS cost an arm, a leg, and few extra digits down in the south

Hey man! I'm glad to see you getting back into the hobby!!

Me too, it was weird wanting to do a water change …

I finally got this thing sumped!

Also I couldn't fit that skimmer, it was too tall and water fell a solid 8" when returning to the sump, creating a lot of splash, I had it turned off for the past few weeks and the tank has been doing fine, so I'll scrap it for now

Here's the current set up - I am going to get in there a re-wire everything this weekend

re-scaped, moved about half of the rock down to the sump

Here is my 50 gal mixing tank! by "my" I mean my labs, also here's our experimental tanks, those are all rigged with LEDs and we are going to work on clownfish - anemone mucous microbial community, hopefully

Smaller skimmer maybe? Let me get some acans collected and I will ship em.

That would be most excellent!!!!

and I thought about getting a smaller skimmer, but I have unlimited access to DI, so I'm thinking just more water changes for the time being

I could also raise the sump of the ground and run as a HOB skimmer, like what I did with the CPR on my 20L, but I am also lazy

Hey man, awesome to see another reefer in GA. I've got some diamond bits, let me know if you ever decide to switch from the siphon overflow and well pop a few holes in a tank.

I think I know who your advisor is ;)

There aren't many groups at tech that do what our lab does …

Legit! I wish I had known that prior to get the HOB overflow
