hey
So, anyone tried one of these, seams like a slow death type critter with such a long way to go to the larger photosynthetic safety size. Gotta admit though they are hella cute http://cultivatedreef.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=16&product_id=872 Link to comment
th64
If you have experience with clams and are on point with params then why not. The smaller ones do require special attention though like broadcast phyto (no spot feeding if I remember right). Watching it grow to a healthy size would be fun and rewarding Link to comment

I can't imagine it not causing tank issues, maybe I should look into it more on the NPS forums. Link to comment
tetraodon
Well some body didnt tell mine that, ive had one ofthe ones pictured for almost 9 months now. I only broadcast feed maybe once a week. If I could dig it out of ny sand bed id send ya a couple pics of how much its grown Link to comment

Psychosis
The 59.99 "our pick" colored clams is what I was referencing, but double the price for triple the clam in regard to the blues. Link to comment

I don't think they are that comparable, this is more of one of those things i see and think could i keep that alive in my system? I am confident I could keep an average sized clam though. metrokat
Baby clams need to be fed. A dirty tank is a good idea, also phyto of different species is a good idea. I use Brightwell phytochrome which has a mix of many.Algagen zooxanthelea, oyster eggs, and docs eco brew are also some of the products I use. I started out with 2 babeh clams, they're happy, had one since April 2013 and the other since Nov 2013. Link to comment

What I meant by double the price for triple the clam was just that. You spend more, but you're getting a 3" clam versus 3/4"-1" that doesn't require the possibly water chemistry altering feeding regimen. Given the mortality rates that are reported for even average size maxima in Nanos, I'm not sure you'd really want it to be even more of a challenge. That said, you could always feed the tiny ones in a separate container iirc. Not really a clam expert, I've traditionally avoided then for the afore mentioned mortality rates. Every time I've come close to purchasing one, the thought of pinched mantle disease kept me from pulling the trigger. Link to comment

I broadcast feed regularly so switching out one food for a different may not effect the tank too horribly. I hear ya on the clam mortality though. I hate the thought of a potential livestock loss.
