ninjamyst
soooooooooo nice. only 17 gallons? looks way bigger. interesting...so water flows right into the media basket in chamber 1? chamber 2 will be for heater / skimmer / reactor / etc? Link to comment
TristanC
Yeah its only 17g, hard to believe I know. The water flows through the inlet at the top through the media tray then under a baffle, over a baffle, then into the "sump", over another baffle, then under a baffle into the return chamber. The "sump" is much larger than my other tank obviously since its longer, so Ill have room for a skimmer if need be. Link to comment
JavaJacketOC
This should be good. When is the RODI due in? Also, cycling any more rock or going to just use what's in the 10g? My friend went into IRC or whatever the name is of that new store by you, he said it's set up really well. Have you made it in there yet? Link to comment

I will not be using anything from the old tank in this one actually, well except Pete. I have a box with around 20lbs of marcorock to play with I actually haven't had a chance to stop by recently, every time I went they were still closed. The ro/di should be here sometime next week... Scott G
I really like the look of a rectangular tank vice a cube and am considering having PicO build one for me as well, which would be my first reef tank. Other than great looks, what do you see as the main advantage of this custom over the PicO 20G which would have given you another 3 gallons of volume? Was there a reason you wanted to specifically keep the volume under 20 gallons (to use a PicO Skim perhaps?) I love the look, just trying to weigh the pros and cons of doing a custom... Thank you. TristanC
Well I can tell you that no matter what you end up with PicO is the way to go, his tanks are miles above everything else out. I went with the custom rectangle for a couple of reasons actually. I am using an ATI 4x24 sunpower so I wanted my tank to be built around those dimensions, I would have had alot of light spill with the 20g. I also like rectangle tanks much more than I like cubes, and the 2.5g that I "loose" doesn't amount to much. Link to comment
TristanC
Any update on this? I have the ro/di but what I haven't had is any free time.. Ill get this thing wet sometime this week for sure. Link to comment
TristanC
Leak testing the tank tonight so I should have it wet tomorrow afternoon! Link to comment
TristanC
Alright guys tank is officially wet! Tomorrow when the water has cleared I will do the aquascape and the cycle will begin. I have a single piece of live rock in it now that I will be leaving until the cycle is over to seed the system. Here is a crappy cloudy tank pic http://s1231.photobucket.com/user/tristanschlueter89/media/photo_zps00db2a0d.jpg.html'> Link to comment

TristanC
I actually don't have a Facebook so I don't really know. I didn't really spend a whole lot of time in there as I had somewhere to be but their tanks are very nice. They have a very small section of dry goods so pretty much the whole place is dedicated to their tanks, I was pretty impressed. Link to comment

TristanC
Just as a side note, that thermometer is only in there to monitor temp during the cycle. Once I purchase an rkl it will be removed. Link to comment
JavaJacketOC
Looks nice, did you try a few different scapes or did you know you wanted something like this from the start? Link to comment
TristanC
Looks nice, did you try a few different scapes or did you know you wanted something like this from the start? Thank you! Actually after about a day and a half of screwing with it I came upon this scape and I really like it. I did want to use more rock than my last tank so I have more area for coral to grow on.
