What will survive around GSP?

Theonly thing I haven't seen overrun would be powerful stinging corals like Hydnophora.

But even thats not a certainty.

GSP are best isolated on their own rocks.

Not much as stated already that invasive weed will overpower most other corals... toss it before it realizes theres nothing you can do to stop it!

lol kalk paste that crap if it gets too invasive, also I have noted that when its by nasty toxic corals like leathers the growth is a lot slower than elsewhere.

Still a horrible weed most end up regretting ownership of LOL

lol see i planned for invasion, i am actually looking into blue cloves but you rly can't control them as they spawn and pop up literally everywhere.

As someone who has a LOT of GSP in their tank, it's a neat coral. However, I keep it off my main rock structure. It will out compete pretty much anything that doesn't have incredible stinging power. It can be safely grown in an aquarium as long as it's kept isolated on a separate rock on the sand bed or on the glass where it can be easily trimmed if necessary.

I could be wrong, but I'd think encrusting montipora could probably outcompete it.

I have a frag i bought with encrusting monti and gsp, the monti actually quit growing and the gsp now has it almost completely surrounded. There are a few encrusting gorgonians i bet could smother it, but I heard gsp is actually related to encrusting gorgonians as flamingo snails will eat it as well.

I'll find out soon, the meteor shower on my overflow and the GSP from the back wall are about to meet on the side of the overflow. If I had to guess though, I think the meteor shower will lose. I've got another frag of the same lower on my rock, and it's losing badly to some hammer coral. I'm wondering if I need to get rid of that hammer actually.

GSP can spawn as well...

Depends on the specific piece but can go either way I have seen both take over each other.

I havnt seen it act nearly as aggressive as most people describe it as acting. Wonder what inspires it to spawn, I would actually appreciate it if it did as most of my coral will beat the crap out of it.

You may have a cleaner system which will slow it down as well.... I actually managed to kill mine with high light, ultra high flow and super clean water, but I still advise against its ownership unless your not a newb, know that its something you definitely want and know the risks ;)

Just one of those things that happens sometimes when it is happy, I don't think it is overly common, but definitely possible

Though meteor shower is a cyphastrea and not montipora...

Another interesting showdown though.

Yeh, I know mine wern't doing too hot when my system was newer and more sterile. Stayed retracted and actually had some purple matting disolve until I started feeding wayyyy more. I am starting to think when people have rly bad gha problems they have dumped 10 cubes of mysis in the tank daily for a year.

Also I would bet plain xenia would outcompete it aswell as its invasive as all hell in reefs its not supposed to be in.

I have seen GSP spawn and I have seen the fish go wild over it. It never got around to spreading that way. Blue cloves is another story if they spawn they spread, I never actually seen them spawn but know very well they do.

I've never seen it spawn in person but I have seen tanks where it was obvious the fish didn't eat it all when it did lol Yeah blue cloves are nasty spreaders.

Take a look at my IDFC 10g.. it's been torn down, but had a mixed rock of GSP and stuff.

well on second thought.. it was pretty much only a st thomas shroom, some other shrooms, and some green implosion palys, and xenia that didn't get snuffed out.

My palys and gsp are on the same rock and both seem to be thriving. Time to frag the wonderful brown palys. I should have scrubbed them off when i had the chance. "Oh look a hitch hiker. I bet they'll be cool" I'm pretty sure they could survive a nuke though.
