Hi Everyone,

I've had a flame angel in quarantine for the past two and a half weeks and noticed he has come down with popeye. He had been in quarantine for about twelve days until I noticed one of his eye beginning to get cloudy. He's been eating very well (knock on wood) marine flakes with garlic and swimming, but just can't seem to shake this cloudy eye. I've been dosing his tank for the past five days with API's Melafix. Check out some pictures below. I have a one of his normal eye and some of his popeye.

Normal:

Popeye:

Thanks!

it is often cause by an injury (banged his eye on something) and then an infection can set in. Check water parameters and keep them pristine.

It could also be flukes (they can burrow into the eye). The treatment for that would be prazipro.

Water has been pristine and I actually had him on Prazipro since day one of QT. Each fish I purchase goes through QT dosed daily with Prazipro. It was only until a couple weeks into QT I noticed the cloudy eye. I called Vivid Aquariums and they recommended the Melafix for the popeye.

Sounds like you are doing everything right then! Melafix should help. My damsel had this before and it cleared up in about a week without treatment.

Thanks. My fingers are crossed. Do you remember if there was scab that fell off or did it just reduce in size?

It slowly reduced in size and became more clear.

I'll keep you updated if there are any changes. Thanks again for the help and I really hope it goes down!
