BTA Ripped and dying

Hi everyone my BTA is 2 weeks old in my tank and in the first week it somehow squeezed it's 2-3 inch long body into a hole that was 1/8 in diameter :(. And it ripped its foot and tentacles off...the tentacles are deflated and it's foot/body is ripped...I'm wondering if it'll make a recovery? Good news is that the foot that is still intact is wanting to attach itself to the rock work...and it does not smell of death yet...

I made a small quarantine cup so the anemone can heal but I'm not sure if it'll make it..does anyone have any experience with this problem I really hope it lives :(

If it is still attaching it should be OK. I would watch it closely for signs of changes, however. Don't try to feed or touch/move it for awhile as to not stress it.

This is good advice. I think you just need to stay the course and don't bother it. My big green bta tried to go over the rapids down to the sump and nearly gave me a heart attack. I redirected flow on that side of the tank and he has never tried to come back. I had to turn off return pump and keep the water level stationary to get him out of there. It was awful but he is doing great now.

Thanks for the advice, It's reassuring that you think that the foot that is still attaching should make him ok. I will leave it alone and let it takes its course. Do you think I should dim my light a little bit or move the quarantine cup to a lower light area?

Thats good news that yours made a full recovery...Earlier before this incident it actually got sucked into my MP10 not once but TWICE!! The first time, I was able to save it before it got its foot in and planted...the second time around it got stuck in the MP10 but thankfully it was not touching the blades just yet...So I just turned off my powerhead and let it remove itself (thank god it did)

Now, I hope it makes a recovery. This GBTA has ALOT of personality its a love/hate relationship :P

Geez you do not have a nem safe tank!

There is no such thing as a nem safe tank if it has an overflow, powerhead, or HOB an anemone can go there without notice.

No I do not unfortunately it's amazing how these inverts can take a beating and survive though.

Status update: came home today and no sign of improvement. Tips still deflated and lying down flat. I'm not sure if its foot is attached to the bottom of the container I don't want to move it to see and stress it out more...

Tentacles are surrounding the mouth I'm guessing that's a positive sign...and there is white tissue around the foot area where it ripped...Hoping that it's rebuilding it's tissue :( only time will tell.

Yeah but some put pantyhose over the overflow or hob and then some take out power heads until the nem is settled in

Hey everyone so one final update: RIP :(

Decide to toss it because it was causing a mini diatom bloom in my tank and when I took it out the whole anemone ripped all the way around where it would look like a flat piece of paper :( There was no signs of improvement and the foot was no longer sticking onto whatever it got its hands on..

So in the wake of my depression, I went ahead and got a Rose Anemone and it sure is doing 1000% better than my GBTA. It latched onto the rock immediately and slowly moved up the scape to get a better hold on the flow + light. I clogged up the false wall chambers with a filter pad so it doesnt suck in my anemone if it decides to move into that direction.

A pic of it is in my build thread check it out if you like . Thanks everyone for your feedback! :D
