snip84
Hello, I have a 15g tank with sps, lps, softies, 3 hermits, 3 snails, 1 tiger pistol shrimp and 1 clownfish (1 did suicide), getting him another one. The tank is about 5 years old. My question is whats the best way to keep alk/ph up? I did dose soda bicarbonate for a long time but wanted to hear other opinions. Kalkwaser? Or buffers? I dont have a sump or refugium. I could have one, i just need to buy a good overflow. tnx, Marko Link to comment
Go Tigers!
First i would invest in a aqua controller and some dosing pumps to get your peramiters dialed in and use a two part solution . I use sachem reef fusion and it works great for me . Link to comment

Tamberav
What is the pH? Are you seeing problems? I wouldn't chase pH unless you are seeing negative effects that are related. Chasing it can cause swings and just do more harm than good. I don't even test pH on my SPS tank. For alk, just find out what is being used up and dose daily. There isn't much too it Link to comment

Tamberav
jeah but what should i dose? 2 part? I use BRS stuff: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/brs-bulk-soda-ash-sodium-carbonate-aquarium-supplement-1.html I think 2 part is a bit misleading, I see a lot of people dosing it in equal parts. Be sure to dose only what is needed. Link to comment
el_ote
I use the b-ionic 2-part. I love this calculator http://reef.diesyst.com/flashcalc/flashcalc.html DO NOT OVERDOSE. the max ill raise alk is 1.4dkh per day, but id start with 1.0dkh max per 24hours, less is better. test, dose exactly to rasie to certain level, test again couple hours later and it should be spot on to what you raised it to. dosing can be tricky start slow and try to get within a good range. dont chase numbers as mentioned above.
