Fun tank! :welcome: to Nano-Reef! Are you new to the hobby? What are your stocking plans? BTW, the pico section has a dedicated following. So, you should do well there.

BTW, I'm in Evanston. Hello neighbor!

:welcome:

Tank is looking good man!

A nassarius hitchhicker? LUCKY!!!

:)

Following!

Thanks man! Was in Vegas just a few weeks ago for a friend's bachelor party. Good times.

Hitchhiker was in the sand - I was hoping the owner of the store didn't notice (he either didn't, or didn't care).

Thanks! Super close! Yes, I'm new to the hobby. I've researched for a year or so and wanted a bigger tank to start with but decided on this as a compromise.

Stocking plans are some low light corals (zoas/shrooms/polyps, maybe frogspawn), possibly a small clownfish, and clean up crew.

I feel your pain on the wife factor. Glad to hear you've done your research!

Good luck!

Welcome to N-R, nice tank, hope to see more progress.

It is really to bad that I am obliged to hate you. Go Kings Go!

Liking your post was very difficult for me, but I did it :)

And thanks!

Welcome! I'm about 40 minutes or so north of you in Gurnee (up by 6 flags). Nice to have another local here.

Thanks! Been up your ways quite a few times. Have you tried out Goliath??

UIC here! Welcome and tank looks great!

Thanks man. Love the scape on yours!

Hi, the tank looks great! I am lucky that I am the wife and my sweet husband just stands by and shakes his head. He did make me promise that I would pay for the floor when I flood the house!

Thanks for checking out my tank. I will be following along with you.

So I tested my levels for the first time. Tank has been up about 10 days now.

I "think" my readings show:

Ph: 8.0

Ammonia: 0ppm

Nitrite: 0ppm

Nitrate: 40ppm

Can you guys let me know what that means? Obviously good ammonia and nitrite are 0, but I believe nitrate should be close to 0ppm as well. I read that a ph of 8.0 is also 'okay' (stability more important?)

Looks like end of cycle to me. Nitrate at the end is expected. A big water change will bring it down. What did you use to introduce ammonia to the tank? The best way to confirm end of cycle is to get ammonia to 2ppm and make sure it goes back down to 0ppm in a day.

Hey Ninja - I didn't use anything as everything I put in the tank was from a previously established tank at my LFS. I was debating putting a cocktail shrimp in there to 'induce' a cycle, but after talking to some people/researching, I saw that wasn't necessary. I probably should have though.

Hopefully the majority of the CUC will be alive in another week or so and I'll retest at that point.

Would you put an ammonia source in with a big CUC already there?

Also checked out your tanks. Love your scape on the 5 gallon. Where in Chicago are you?

Fun! Looks like John hooked you up. Keep an eye on those hermit crabs for possible submissions to my Official Crab-Stacking thread. ;)

Yeah - I think I need to remove about 90% of the crew I have in there. I just checked out your crab thread - I'll have to get a few pics and post them!
