Drexellake
I'm setting up a small 8 gallon tank that was given to me. I plan on some beginner coral. The light with it is a 16 watt 10,000K daylight. Will this be sufficient for this tank? I see some using 9 watt LEDs, but I have no clue thus the question. Thanks Link to comment

zooman72
Those Wavepoint lights are actually quite powerful, and the model you listed would probably be able to keep low-medium light corals in that tank size, although they probably won't look as nice as they could with another light. Wavepoint actually makes that same light with an uneven mix of blue and white diodes, but I found it too blue for my tastes. All that being said, while the Wavepoints offer a lot of "bang for the buck", there are better lights out there - take a look at the Par30's and Par38's from Coral Compulsion (would probably also need the gooseneck), or the Nano Box Mini Tide (quite a bit more expensive, but worth it). I believe Nano Box also has a "value version" of the Mini Tide as well (less power and fewer "bells and whistles"). If you look around, there are other options out there from various vendors right on here - good luck! Link to comment
Drexellake
I really like the nano Mini's. I asked the vendor about the controller but didn't really get the answer I was looking for. If I buy the Storm upgrade, does it allow programming for on and off effects or is it just a controller only? I have a very nice light on my freshwater setup that has all of the effects, but I hardly use them and set it to daylight and plug it into a timer. Would be much nicer if I could time it to come on to dull light for morning then adjust brighter, then to moonlight at night and off without my having to touch anything. I'm not always around to do this, thus the timer. Link to comment
evilc66
The Storm controller allows you to adjust all the channels independently, as well as setting the on/off times, ramp times, and effects like cloud cover and storms.
