Hi all,

Any ideas for what I could do with this tank, like a biotope of a species only tank?

FTS 10/20/14

imagejpg1-34.jpg

i had to shutdown my old 60g tank due to the hobby costing too much for me, i have to buy everything with £10 a week from my paper round. I now havn't had a saltwater tank for months and i really miss the hobby. At the moment the 60g is quite a new freshwater aquarium because it is cheaper.

But this is the wrong forum for that.

So this is where the tank will go and the ATO is ready near the TV.

imagejpg2.jpg

I am hoping for it to be a peninsular tank and have it dominated by sps (this will be a huge challenge)

The light will of course be LED and im looking at this http://www.ledpacific.com/reef-white...screw-fitting/ any opinions of that wopuld be appreciated.

For now i am buying some rock tomorrow and putting it in my bucket to cycle it.

Thanks for looking and have a nice day smile.gif

Ooo I love these boundaries pushing picos. Any equipment plans yet

My plan is to do something like this http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/132714-my-55g-pico-with-built-in-fuge/ with a 100gph return pump.

I am also considering the use of a very large fuge (4g) where the tv is and somehow connect that with no drilling. No sure how yet.

May aswell do a small update. The rock i got is fantastic got at least 2 brisleworms and loads of tiny snails. and a picture for you :)

What kind of tank is that? Did you re-rim it yourself?

ETA: I haven't heard of that brand of par bulbs before. Coral Compulsion is always highly recommended, and they are a forum sponsor as well. They have two different par30 bulbs, an 18K and a 22K.

If you are looking for something full spectrum you could go with one of their par38s instead, but for such a small tank you would probably want the dimmable version with their manual dimmer.

Thanks for the links man, I'll have a look after this post. The tank is a clear seal one. It is so small it doesn't have to normal centre brace so it can be kept rimless how it is. I'm planning on painting to bottom white because there is no place I can get starboard. Thanks for the help :)

And btw the only reason I saw the ledpacific is because it is located in the uk, is this place happy to ship to uk?

Oh, sorry I hadn't considered international shipping. It looks like they don't, unless they are talking about livestock. You could try on the classifieds here. Kessils and par bulbs seem to pop up pretty often. Someone might be willing to ship internationally.

Check out this light as well: http://reefbreeders.com/shop/nano-lite/

More than a par bulb, but you won't have to buy a lamp and it has two dimmable channels. Their FAQ section says they ship international as well.

Always nice to see sps picos pop up. How long is the tank ? If you're looking to get the bulb you listed on your first post,I'd maybe aim for 2 to get decent par and distribution across the whole tank.

Secondly, lots of flow is key, random flow at that. Maybe 2 pumps on opposite sides of the tanks on different corners, kind of gyrate the flow. I'd also recommended Chemi-Pure elite and media ( carbon and phosphate medias ) and a decent hang on back fiter or a canister fiter.

Like my 2 gallon tank ( in my 7 gallon thread ) I've got 6 royal blues,2 hyper violets,4 neutral whites,2 cyans and 2 regular blues. Blues on one channel and whites and 2 regular blues on one channel.

A AquaClear 50 filter with carbon and phosphate media at FULL BLAST and a Hydor 200gph pump at about half way and all my sps are happy and encrusting. I have: Joe the Coral,Superman Digi,Montipora Setosa, green Acro,Rainbow Monti,Superman Monti,Jedi Mind Trucks Montipora,Booberry Montipora,Blue Tenuis, and ORA Green Birdsnest all happy as can be :D

Thanks for the reply, the tank is 16" long and I'm about to check your thread :)

Small update, I had to move the tank because my mum didn't like where it was so I will put a FTS up later.

I had to move it, to my desk where my PC is lol, all I did is remove 3gallons and picked it up hahaha. Don't expect there to be corals in it until Xmas which is when I get the light. Anyway a FTS

If you're talking about that little treelike growth (can hardly see it at the top right of your rocks), from how you describe it, it may be the dreaded Aptasia anemone? Look it up but dont fool with it until you read about it.

It is defiantly not aptasia, have a look at my id on it in the id forum http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/351503-lol-a-tiny-fluffy-tree-id-please/#entry4834930

Thanks for your help

For a 16" long tank, an 18" Current Orbit Marine fixture might be good. I have it over a 10G and it's doing well. And no light spillage :)

Not sure where you can get it in the UK though

A hammer and chisel will do wonders when working with rocks.
Lol, I was thinking angle grinder and lay them flat on the bb haha.

The problem is the uk bit, everything is so expensive. I'm looking at the reefbreeders nano lite it is only $40 shipping over here and will be good for a potential upgrade to a 15g
