QT tank question

So, I have always had a 10 gallon tank filled with saltwater for water changes, it is heater to the same temp as my Display tank, and it has a AC70 running on it and a powerhead in the tank just circulating water and mixing the salt. I have used it once now to quarantine some new corals I got from a local reefer, seemed to work fine. My question is, what do you need for a QT tank? How is there bacteria in the tank? And can you run a QT tank with just water a heater and a powerhead? Do you need a filter?

You need a bio-filter. The easiest way to transfer a bio-filter is to run some mechanical media in a filter on your main tank (for several weeks), and transfer it to your quarantine tank when you need it.
