Alexraptor
With a camera... not a gun. And if you entered this thread thinking it was about shooting corals with guns... well, wth is wrong with you!? So yeah, got a shutterbug itch and started shooting away this afternoon. My old old brain coral, one of my two oldest colonies also proved to be a willing subject. Link to comment
Alexraptor
Derp, can't believe I had it said on Normal quality instead of highest! Ah well! I so do like using my brain as a subject! And this monti of mine, it kinda looks like some kind of bizarre flowering goo monster!Maybe it will look a bit less monstrous in daylight! And my Protopaly's definitely warranted a second look.As did the Pavona. But my hermits kind of started to feel a little left out.Now if only my Clowns and my Mandarin could stop hiding and volunteer for a little photo op. Nano sapiens
. Nice, not too many people have Pavona varians. I've had mine for 5 years now and the shapes it takes on can be really interesting. Link to comment
kylhcky
damn, i wish my pavona looked like that. Link to comment
Alexraptor
Got myself a Video Camera today, and now I can also shoot macro video as well! Still need to play around a bit with the white balance, maybe shoot in "Pop Color" mode too. Link to comment
Sashimi
What kind of camera was used? Link to comment
Alexraptor
For the still photos, a Fujifilm FinePix S2000HD For the video, a Sony HDR-CX240E Link to comment
Sk8n Reefer
That Pavona is sweet- 5yrs. Good job- how old are the brains? Link to comment
Mr. Microscope
Well done! I'd reduce exposure a little. The whites were red lining a little with those favia at first. Link to comment
Alexraptor
Myeah, I shot this video with full automatic settings, and I also need to try and see if I can calibrate the white balance a little. But even to the naked eye the Favia polyps on the top reflect a fair bit of light and display some pretty strong fluorescence. The Brain is about 9 years old, and along with my protopalys are among my oldest and among the first corals I ever had, and have survived every misfortune ever to befall my tank, including a full blown tank crash. And the Brain also bleached and was almost a gonner the time the radiator broke and heated up the entire room to 40+ centigrade! Link to comment
Alexraptor
Also gave the Photo Mode a try, using the "Color Pop" color setting. Link to comment
Alexraptor
No ISO or shutter speed settings, but that camcorder is damn good at taking sharp macro stills with a lot of zoom. Compare with my previous "goo monster" shot taking with my Compact Camera. Link to comment
CrazyEyes
Great shots! Hermit crabs look so funny close up. Link to comment
xiaoxiy
Yo Alex, what settings do you shoot your macros on? Link to comment
Alexraptor
With the compact camera I shoot on automatic with shutter priority, with variable ISO between 400-1600 and a shutter speed of 1/60 or 1/125, depending on lighting conditions and subject. With the camcorder as in the last shots I posted i'm pretty limited with what I can do, though I do use a manual set white balance. Link to comment
