Dry Rock/Sand

I think I might be upgrading my system soon and am looking to buy dry sand and rock. Does anybody have recommendations on the best place to buy dry rock and dry sand. Most places online only have live sand.

I've read that you can use simple playground sand that you can buy at Home Depot, or the like. For dry rock, I bought some from Amazon, just search for "base rock". I think they have great prices.

Avoid the play sand, it doesnt look "white"

I would avoid the play sand it is high in silicates I believe. Also it will likely be very fine and as a result would blow around the tank easily.

You could maybe use some freshwater sand

There's really no difference in the cost of dry sand compared to live sand so there isn't a benefit of saving a few bucks by using dry sand like there is when using dry rock vs live rock

Reefcleaners dry rock is really nice. Craggy, full of holes. John is great. Just tell him what you want in your scape and he will hook you up.

 

As for sand, I would get some legit sand sold for the purpose.
