Solid wood construction with interior dimensions the way I wanted. Link to comment

If you want quality, nothing is ever going to beat having someone custom build one for you - it's small so it shouldn't be obscenely expensive. If there is no sump going on the tank, you might be better off going to a furniture store and buying something that matches the room it's going in since it isn't that heavy. As long as it isn't MDF it'll hold it no problem. Link to comment

Originally I was just going with IKEA but the 18x18 is tough - Can't find any reviews on the Red Sea stand other one person saying it was bomb proof. Hoping to get a few more reviews on it. I don't know where you got a quote for 1400 for a stand that can hold 150ish lbs but damn. I mean I had mine done from scratch for like 260 or something by a cabinet company with much larger projects lined up, had to wait 4 weeks was the catch. I would go to home depot or lowes and buy an unfinished kitchen cabinet in the right dimensions, hell with the money saved you could buy a granite countertop for it paint it and buy 2 more fish tanks. And for 500 I would be expecting European hinges and hardwood panels. Keep looking around and see if you cant find someone else to talk to . Link to comment
jabeuy Posted September 16, 2014 Share Posted September 16, 2014 Have you looked into making a stand out of 80/20 T-slot framing? You can then skin it with whatever panels suit your decor. I'm looking into it now for a 36x18x13 build. I got a quote to get one custom built and it wasnt anywhere near $1500. Link to comment
