Zep323
would it be wise to use water from my 1st tank to help cycle my new tank???? got a 12 gallon nano and started cycling a 30 gallon nano about 7 days ago. CurtBoswell
Most bacteria is not in the water column. So it wouldn't help much. Link to comment
ElmoC
It would be more helpful to the cycle to bring a few of the rocks over from your other tank. However, being only 12 gallons that could possibly cause an ammonia spike depending on your bioload. What do you have in the 30 now? Putting the water from the change probably won't hurt, but not going to do much to help. Link to comment
Zep323
well in the 30, i have nothing but live rock i purchased from the LFS and a rock i removed from my 12 gallon. I have no live stock in there beside a crab that hitched hiked on the rock from my 12 gallon. I did grab to small scoops of sand from my old tank and put it in the new one. I thinking about grabbing some more sand and putting it in there Link to comment
cindyp
from my reserach, upgrading from a 3g to an 8g, it seems the most helpful is to have established live rock. if they are from a well established tank, moving them to the new tank along with a cup handful or whatever of the seeded live sand may help speed up the process? good luck!
