Mattyfelts' 20 Long Reef-demtion!

Well it's not so much of a build from the start as a build from the middle. The tank has been running for around 4-6 months, is cycled and has corals. However this thread will be a journal following the rest of the tanks life .

Hardware

-Maxi-jet circulation pump rated at 110 GPH [Fluval CP-1 powerhead]
- AC 20 with DIY surface skimmer and chaeto in both. [Containing chaeto]
-Aqua-tech 10 gallon filter for mechanical filtration and surface agitation.
-Aqueon heater keeping a constant heat of about 78 *
- Glass lid to help evaporation.
- 2 x Par38 Rapid LED bulb.

Stock

- Yellow Clown Goby

- 2 Turbo Snails
- 2 Hermit

Corals

- Ric
- Multiple zoas and palys
- Duncan

- Scoly

- Baby plate

- Green [bleaching] plate type thing

- Kenya tree

- Toadstool

Current Issues

- Some hair algae, especially on the back glass. Turbos and water changes are decreasing this however.
- greenish tinted algae on sand, lack of flow, will upgrade powerhead soon.

- Bleaching plate and pissy duncan.

Questions

- What should i stock this tank with, if anything at all.

Future Plans

- Possible new powerhead
- ATO system? [In the works]
- Maybe an added on 10 Gal refugium / sump

heres a small update...

 

no more maxi jet, I have upgraded to a fluval c-1 i beleive (powerhead rates at 265gph)

 

The aquaclear has broken down and thus i use an aqua-tech to run mechanical media.

 

I have a tonne more gsp, zoas, palys, duncans, plate coral, scoly, toadstool.

 

I am also closer to my bare bottom goal. Pictures to come later!

so no photos yet, the tank turned into a cloud but is clearing up with carbon and not messing with it. Going to do a water change next chance i get [school and work are always in the way]. Otherwise everything is growing nicely and thriving, found a baby plate coral in a mixed zoa rock i have and snapped it off. it fully extends!

DIY ATO is in the works, making a mount for it to be held shortly!

if anyone knows how to drill plexiglass (i think its plexi glass) about 3/8" thick just tell me .

and finally, i pulled this little tiny fungia plate off a rock of zoas forever ago, it split in half. When it comes to drilling plexiglass the key to success is go slow. If you build up heat you will melt the plastic

here comes some photos! got some pulsating xenia and a red mushroom, also my goby is perching on the zoas now so cute. Duncan is growing new flesh (all it had was a polyp and raw skeleton when i purchased) Discovered some zoapox and took care of that. I also reorganized the scape and made "bridge de Zoa".... ENJOY!
