I got a DD torch that expelled it during shipping its been over a year and barely has any color to it still and I feed a ton. Supposedly it is a very slow process because they are not getting more symbiotic zooxanthelae from the water and relies solely on reproduction with what is left in the coral.

What's you're lighting, high intensity at this point will only make matters worse. The symbiotic algae the coral lost is also it's natural sun screen so uv/bright lights can further damage and kill this coral. Keep it in low flow, low light, and target feed with brine, mysis, or any zooplankton type food at least once a week. It will recover and gain its color back, but it's a slow process.

Hey there!!!!

I had the exact same issue. My torch received too much light and was bleached severely like yours (photo #1). I put it in a low flow area and shaded it partially and after about 3 months it is recovering nicely (photo #2)

My cell cam is terrible but the torch now is a medium cream color with prominent green tips. (as it should be).

Yours will probably recover too if you shade it, keep it in a low flow area and spot feed it regularly.

Sorry about the images size, quality, and different sources but i'm having trouble posting pics.

I know it doesn't look like much difference between the pics but in the flesh, there's a lot of difference.

thats a great recovery, how low of light did you have it like bottom corner or something? Asking because its rly been 1 yr or so since mine was delivered and it still looks like crap, albeit less crap than it originally did.

Thanks for all the replies...

Wow! I didn't realize that it's bleached because it looked very nice with those white stems and green tips and that's the main reason I bought it at the first place...

My main doubt is how can only heads bleach that bad when the other two heads are brown (see the picture, I cannot separate both unless I split it with knife, my point is both were growing together) was is it done purposefully (I don't think so..)? but still...

The green tips is just the left over fluorescing pigment whereas the symbiotic zooanthelae has left. Not sure what you mean by the 2nd part all I see is 1 head of bleached torch.

I actually had it on the bottom of the tank (about 20" below the light) and in addition to that, i put a piece of opaque grey plastic on the tank lid which shaded (only) the torch. That way, i could remove the plastic for a little longer time each day as i saw the Torch recover.
