ackattackkk
So I have a few sets of zoas and they are almost completely open except for the skirts arent down. I can see the complete middle of them and the skirts are up but not fully out. All of them are like this any ideas??? Link to comment
clownfitch
What are you using for lighting? Are they getting some flow? Have you tested for phosphates and nitrates? Link to comment
ackattackkk
What are you using for lighting? Are they getting some flow? Have you tested for phosphates and nitrates? I am using a reef breeders value fixture on a 29 gallon standard. They are getting some flow, maybe not enough? My PH is on the right side of the tank on the back and the zoas are in the front half of the tank maybe i should move the Ph. The phosphates were good and the nitrates are between10-20 a little high. clownfitch
Mine will not show full extension if the nutrients are a little high. They also like enough flow to make the skirt waft a little in the current but not direct flow. I use a WP-10 in my softie cube. It is aimed for the front glass which causes a decent amount of indirect flow through out the tank. Link to comment

How long have you had them as sometimes they take a while to get acclimated to your tank before they fully open ... although they look mostly open in that picture already ... Link to comment
ackattackkk
Another question I have is why have they changed color? They were originally green dragon eyes. now they are more yellow How long have you had them as sometimes they take a while to get acclimated to your tank before they fully open ... although they look mostly open in that picture already ... a little over a week. Yeah they are mostly open except their skirts are upwards and not outwards the picture I guess you cant really see but in person its noticable Link to comment
clownfitch
I have also seen them act like that after a dip treatment. Especially if they weren't completely closed when dipped. Link to comment
Angel<3Nanos
Did you dip them before introducing? I kid you not i have a frag of 3 polyp bowsers who took months to fully open. Sometimes they need time to acclimate. Did you get all the frags from the same vendor? Link to comment
Mariaface
Are they still adjusting to higher lighting? Link to comment

Mariaface
That's good to hear! From what I've read, color changes usually have to do with lighting levels. Kind of like plants: if they're getting a lot of sunlight, the concentration of chlorophyll goes down. My poor peace lily was turning yellow out in direct sunlight until I moved it back inside with the other one, and now it's getting back to its dark green. Corals will expel zooxanthellae and do the same. And if I recall correctly, you just got these lights, right? Link to comment

Yes they are the first light ive ever had on the tank and the tank is around 2 months old. This is what they look like under white lights.( Pic was taken a couple days ago) Link to comment

nickpop86
How high is your fixture above water line? Link to comment
Lawnman
They aren't fully opened because the light is to bright. Turn your led's down! Link to comment
ackattackkk
They aren't fully opened because the light is to bright. Turn your led's down! the red ones are fully open now and the dragon eyes are open more that pic was from a couple days ago. The light is about 8 inches off the water and the tank is 18 inches deep and the zoas are on the sand should I raise my light more? Link to comment
Mariaface
If they're still opening, go ahead and let them be for a week or two. If it takes longer than that to make them happy, though, try lifting the light a bit. What are your nutrient levels, by the way? Zoas probably won't like high light if there isn't enough food for their zooxanthellae in the water. Link to comment
Jtm51
Are there any nudibranches? I had that prob before it sucked Link to comment
