MrMoFo
8 years ago I used to keep saltwater/reef tanks and greatly enjoyed the hobby. Now after several years and kids later I finally have gotten the itch to start up the ole reef tank again. Below are the specs for my "new" tank project. My plan is to get my feet wet again with this tank and then build a larger in wall tank / sump / stand. Video Attached of my tank setup. Specs: 29 gal bow front DIY Drilled 1" bulk heads 1" PVC and 1" braided vinyl tubing Mag 7 pump (700gph) more like 400gph+ ish' with head my setup Aqua C remora skimmer JBJ powerhead (may go to MaxiJet 1200 I have laying around) DIY overflow box made from acrylic and painted black DIY 10 gal sump / refug I have an old Orbit lighting system @ 2x65w (any suggestions on an upgrade?) Tank is currently running freshwater to test flow rates and plumbing. Next step 1) Find a spot to place the tank!!...currently in my workshop but need to find a spot in my basement 2)Purchase a RO system and begin mixing saltwater within the system. 3) Add sand/rock to DT and refug area in sump 4) begin to cycle Question/suggestions: I currently have my return nozzles about 0.5" below the surface of the water to break the siphon once power is lost. The sump holds the water that feeds back from the display tank. My problem is I do not want to count on the nozzles always staying in the same location to break the siphon. I don't really want to add a check valve (they are known to fail) like to hear other suggestions about how to break the siphon. I have considered drilling a hole on the nozzles and running a piece of tubing up to just below the surface. Enjoy, MrMoFo Link to comment
