What's up with my feather duster?

I recently added a pair if feather dusters that are attached at the base of a clam shell. The one feather duster is doing fine. But the other shed his crown within the first few hours. The one that shed its crown is the taller of the 2 - about 6inches long. His head is pinched together very tight. It also looks as if there are 2 worms in the tube. One at the base and one at the top. There is a good two inch section between them that looks empty and is practically transparent. The crown is laying flat on the sand bed in the far corner of my tank. Is this a sign of reproduction or is the poor thing dead?

let it be... sabellids will drop their crowns and grow new ones... i've had a pair for a few years now and one dropped its crown a few weeks ago, shut up the tube and looked dead until a few days ago, where it reappeared with a smaller, but thicker crown. the patterning on the gills also changed. give it time and it'll come back.
