jamescon85
Hi all, Just thought i would share my story to maybe help any new owners in the future. I started out with a yellow tailed damsel a month ago, these are meant to be good beginner fish as a are hardy and pretty colourful. After 3 weeks i added a clownfish, i noticed that he wasnt eating, and for the first few days he sat in the same spot. Every now and again the damsel would come up to him and slap his tail in his face, being new to marines i just though that this was "playing" turns out it was more aggression. Unfortunately after having the clown for 5 days i found him dead at the bottom, i werent too sure whether this was from the damsel or just that he maybe wasnt right when i got him. So this morning i went i bought a green chromis to see just how the temprament of the damsel was like, as soon as i put the chromis in the damsel went for him and chased him around the tank. I rang the aquatics shop where i had both fish from (he was aware of the potential issue i may have had with the damsel, but he did advise me to start with the damsel) and he said try and catch the damsel and i could him back. after 2 hours and a rearranged tank i had him out and took him to the shop. The guy said he would give me discount on a fish i wanted, so i chose an emporor cardinal, and got it for £6.99! these are one of the fish i was planning to keep so a big win for me. The chromis and the cardinal seem to be doing great and no signs of aggression at all. Hopefully next week i can add some clownfish. But no more damsels for me! Link to comment

joy13
I can't lump all damsels in the same mean butt hole group. I have had a blue devil for 5 years a few weeks ago I put a tomato clown and a dotty back in with her. The clown it turns out to be the aggressive one. I have had him for 3 years but he was my friends fish first. BTW clowns are actually damsels. Link to comment
HVani
I think it also depends on the size of your tank. In a larger tank yellow tails are generally peaceful for a damsel. In a small tank, it's a war. Link to comment
