jgaepi
I want to add a toadstool to my tank. Doing some research, I understand there are a few differences between ORA and Tyree toadstools. I am considering placing an order from Jason Fox and he has two types that he responded saying they are different and amazing. So my question is, are all Toadstools created equal? I am a beginner so I want it to be hardy but with prices ranging from $28-$60, I am not so concerned with cost. One consideration, with a 14BC, ideally I would like it to grow a little slowly. opaquelace
I have the neon green polyp toadstool. I find it doesn't grow terribly fast but it's also not a slow grower. Good thing is it is very easy to frag if you find it's getting larger than you want. Just use some sharp scissors and snip. Link to comment
PiscesFish
I haven't seen any corals be hardy just because it was Tyree or whatnot. The only difference that I do see is just the color of the polyps. I've seen neon green polyped Tyree toadstools and they look great. So it all depends on what color you want I guess and how big you want to buy it at first too. Btw, leather corals tend to do pretty well for beginners. I mean like I started with a Cabbage Coral and I dont even know what Ive put that guy through, but he's lasted since the very start of my tank. Very pretty when he extends too . Oh! and IMHO, I think that hardiness might've been a problem in the past, but right now, it seems like most toadstools do well. Only time that I've seen one go on a downfall is because of any light bleeching or there was a parasite eating through the base of the toadstool itself. So, with that being said, it's totally up to you on how much you want to spend and how big of a toadstool you will be starting out with and the color of its polyps. Link to comment
basser1
I have had the tyree green leather. But recently I got a Dwarf Japanese Green leather. It has the green polyps, but the cap is also green, not tan like some others. I paid over $100 for a nickel size frag and it is a slow grower. This is not my pic, but one by Captive Reef that had them: Link to comment
