Cadlights 8 Gallon Issues?

Snowsrfr

Recommended Posts

I ordered an 8 gallon from Cadlight recently and just got around to setting up this weekend. Was dumbfounded by what I found. The return pump outlet was stuck through the whole drilled into the acrylic for the rear chamber using the lock ring for the pump to secure it, hence the return pump is suspended in the back chamber. Is this right? No locline type nozzle in the aquarium itself? No hose or fitting that would connect the return pump in the rear chamber to the return to the aquarium? Am I missing something here?

Talk about a sand storm with the pump plumped straight into the tank. Should have at least included a deflector attachment of sorts. Good thing for spare pieces I have laying around.

I've had my 8G for a little over a month now and have tried about ten different configurations to take the pump off of the dividing wall (NPT elbow to coupling, MPT elbow barb to 1/2" hose, etc, etc). In every instance it would start out nice and quiet, then after a few hours or days it would develop a really annoying rattling. I've since gone back to mounting the pump to the wall and attached it with a Loc-Line MPT valve (on display side) and a flare nozzle to deal with the sand-storm/barren corner issue.

If you come up with something else, I'd love to hear it.

I'm using the same kind of set up right now. From the tanks I've seen it seems to be the most common set up. I've seen a few that use the rotating Hydor head but this seems like it would blow sand around also.

hi! great to "meet" you, because i just bought

a cadlights 8g and started a build thread on it.

i'm currently cycling, but might have cheated and

added some soft corals already. don't tell!

anyway, i did my research beforehand and went

ahead to buy this cheap hydor water deflector.

it's working well. it is still moving some of the sand

in the front left corner of my tank, but i've got a rock

there and the disturbance is minimal. i've been happy

with it so far.

i've also come to the conclusion that this hobby

has the absolutely CRAPPIEST instructions ever.

assuming they even bother to include any instructions--

as we know the cadlights did not.

will you be starting a build thread, because i'd love to follow!

good luck and have fun!
