basser1
Saw this on reef builders. Looks like sustainable aquatics is releasing some new clowns, the long tail clownfish. Look for them on Divers Den..... http://reefbuilders.com/2014/08/29/sustainable-aquatics-shows-longfin-ocellaris-pair-macna/ Link to comment
Dr.Brain Coral
Looks like a Betta. That is one cool fish Link to comment
1.0reef
They also had a B/W longfin mutation. Link to comment
rengb6
I'm not a fan. Looks like they ran the fish through a blender. Link to comment
hey
Ya this is an early start to selective breeding something aesthetically pleasing, not even close yet imo Link to comment
Alexraptor
Personally I' not a fan of intentionally breeding mutations, be it fresh or saltwater. IME selectively bred species are weaker and less hardy than their normal ancestors, and are prone to developing congenital defects and health problems. And unfortunately in many cases selective breeding = inbreeding, in order to make desirable "aesthetic" traits become permanent. Some of todays goldfish breeds are just horrifying to behold, and one wonders what kind of person willingly inflicts that on a living being. And the last thing I want to see is already beautiful and stunning marine fish have such horrors inflicted on them. Link to comment

They just started appearing in batches of fish. Link to comment
hey
It's no different than what we have done with dogs, cats, farm animals forthousands of years. We find desirable traits and breed for them. Not saying it isn't or is messed up, just saying it is nothing new. Link to comment
wow.such.chris
Clowns are going the way of goldfish. Gross if you ask me. My whole desire in reefing is to create something that somewhat replicates the natural environment. The more I learn the more i wish i would've went towards a tank that wasn't a mix of corals from various areas and reef zones even. Not judging those that enjoy this stuff, i'll admit it is interesting, just not my cup of tea. Link to comment
Halo_003
Really doesn't look good at all in my opinion. Link to comment
MrSexyShrimp
Not a fan. They look like they've been fighting. Link to comment
StevieT
They are bad ass in person. Don't like em don't buy em Link to comment
Tamberav
Bettas with really long fins seem to have a more difficult time swimming. I wonder if the clowns would suffer the same problem? Not sure how I feel about them yet but my husband likes them. Link to comment
fmfa0801
I seen a pair at my LFS tonight. They are different but I would not buy them. My LFS wanted $1,000 for the pair!! Link to comment
Elizabeth94
Personally, I don't think this is a fish I would even put in my sump... However, if some of you guys like them I hope that first price drops down fast. I know with Boa Constrictors new morphs can be in the five digits. Too rich for my blood Link to comment
Pinner Reef
We have a local who are breeding these. I'm not a fan of them either. Fins are never fully intact. Always looks like a Betta w tail infection. Blah. They were selling them for like $200 at the Reef show. Link to comment
mystersyster
I am all for designer clowns. But there comes a point where ethics should be involved. Humans have selectively bred dogs for a long time, and sometimes that selective breeding leads to breeds with serious health and age issues. I don't know how these fish will do or if they will have any negative long term effects. However, I hope that SA, ORA, and whatever other places keeps their ethics in check. One can only hope with the types of paychecks we are giving them. Link to comment
CrazyEyes
Nope. A LFS had a pair of them, even in person I still think they look terrible. Link to comment

Jrlevn
They look weird. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Link to comment
