Brayreef
Hello, I currently have a 3 gallon picotope running stock filtration. I am debating on getting an AC70 or the new Pico Skim 2.0 as a way of removing any waste in the water. My question is, should I use the stock picotope filter in combination with the pico skim 2.0 or should I mod an AC70 into a refugium using chaeto, chemipure elite and purigen without the pico skim? Im not sure if they will serve the same purpose or if they are totally different in terms of what they do. Thanks Link to comment
tibbsy07
AC70. More water flow and better overall filtration. The PicO Skim 2.0 is really nice, but you'll need more in such a tank. It's better to have overall better flow/filtration than a skimmer, imo. Get the AC70, and honestly just run some activated carbon and filter floss. Your tank will thank you for it. If you need to skim later, THEN get the skimmer. Also - the AC70 adds a good bit of water (about 0.25-0.5 gallons) to the whole system, giving you more breathing room in such a small tank. JR!
with out a doubt the ac70. no need for a skimmer in a tank that small Link to comment

jservedio
A skimmer is pointless on a pico that size - big water changes are more effective than any other sort of filtration. The AC70 will give you more volume and flow and gives you a place to run filter floss and any chemical media if you want to. By a huge margin, the best "filtration" you can possibly have on a 3g pico is a 1 gallon, or bigger, jug of clean saltwater every week and a turkey baster to stir up any detritus for removal. Any1 ever thought of drilling a pico for an overflow with no return and doing something like this Link to comment
Brayreef
I forgot to add that im using a rio 50 powerhead for extra water movement. It looks like I'll just get AC70 with an intank media basket. Link to comment
