xDukrx
Hey guys, first reef tank and first led light build. I wanted to make sure I have everything I need parts wise for my build. My tank is a 49 gallon 24"L X 18"W X 24"H. I want to have nice coral growth as well as make my fish pop. Should I have more royal blue and less white? The red and purple are just be experimental for color change and can be replaced or removed.. Any recommendations? Any other parts ? Thank you! My list is- MakersLED Heatsink Kit 12 inch Inventronics 75w driver - 700mA CREE XT-E Royal Blue x12 CREE XT-E Cool White (6000K) x6 CREE XT-E Neutral White (4500K) x6 Exotic Hyper Violet LED - 430nm x2 Exotic Deep Red - 660nm x2 Link to comment
jedimasterben
You want to use no cool white over a reef tank. Your base LEDs should be neutral white, royal blue, and blue in a 2:4:1 ratio (this sets your base color temperature to around 12-14K depending on who you ask ) and then add other colors from there. I would personally use warm white instead of deep red by itself, it blends a lot better. You could also use the Nichia white instead of the XT-E and skip using warm white or red altogether. You'll want cyan and violet, though. 8x NW, 16x RB (or 4x Luxeon M royals), 4x blue, 2-4x cyan (play around with them), and 8-16x violet. Having two violet over that tank will make zero difference, I wouldn't bother with less than 8. You'll also probably want to run them on separate drivers, or at least separate out the blue adn violet. Link to comment
xDukrx
Awesome, thank you for the reply. Any driver you recommend that's relatively simple? Link to comment
jedimasterben
Inventronics if you're wanting simple, but the MakersDrivers are also pretty easy to use, just takes a separate DC supply. Each Makersdriver 2up can run up to ~28 LEDs (has two dimming channels). Link to comment
