Combination of Blue LEDs?

What kind of combination of blue leds do people use to not have the windex color? Just only blue leds? Or is there a good combo of royal blue and blues? I need a combination of 3 LEDs. I was thinking 2 XP-E blues and 1 XT-E royal blue. Would that be a good color?

Thank you for all help.

It varies from build to build but I'd say a common ground would be a 2:1 blue to nw ratio with the blues being 50/50 royal blue to cool blue to help eliminate the purple hue from a royal blue/neutral white combo

You don't want your primary 'blue' to be blue'...

Unless one really enjoys the 'Windex' look :)

Seriously, Jedi's right on here. I used one 'Blue' to a bunch of Royal Blue and Hyper Violet and I could still notice just a bit of the Windex look. Our eyes are sensitive to blue and especially blue-green/green.

I believe it is somewhat dependent on the specific diodes used (they are not all the same) as well as the user's perception (we are not all the same, and some are more "susceptible to purple"). I have used a 2:1 ratio of Luxeon ES RB:CB diodes to reduce (or eliminate) the "purplish cast" from certain neutral whites, and the Maxspect Razor 16000K (probably my favorite commercial fixture currently) has a 4:3 ratio of RB (Cree XT-E):B (Cree XP-E).

To the OP - if you are restricted to 3 diodes at a time, then reverse your ratio, and hopefully you find that it works for you... ;)

So with 3 available spots for blues I should just use 3 royal blues? That's what all the posts seem to go to.

You could, but it may depend on what whites you are using - lower-K whites with just royal blues could result in a bit of purplish cast, which adding some cool blue/blue may counter. If using just higher-K cool whites, adding cool blue may result in the "windex" look. Again, look at the Maxspect Razor, using the same diodes you proposed (unknown bins though) in a 4:3 ration along with a 1:1 ratio of cool whites to warm whites and added violets - works well for that example. Also, BML uses a 4:3 ratio of 470nm ("cool blue") to 450nm (royal blue) in their 20K light strips (along with cool whites, warm whites and violets, unknown diodes), and there is no "windex" appearance there either.

I personally like using standard or "cool" blues a bit, as it widens the blue spectrum and appears to brighten the overall look, but YMMV... ;)

Why do you only have 3 spots?

I'm modding my current fixture.

I'm just gonna order 3 royal blues, and 2 blue and see which combo I do like.
