Curing Live Rock Outside.

If I do get a hold of some real live rock.

I want to cure it outside to utilize the sun to grow the coralline and any macros.

Weather is becoming more mild.

Im thinking a large Rubbermade, clearish transparent kind. Heater, power head, change salt water weekly fir a couple weeks. Isolate any pests or hitchhikers during this time. Put my ReefCleaners rock in with it to help seed it. Keep high Ca Alk, Mg and Strontium and Molybdenum levels. Rotate the rick in the tank around daily, so it all gets good light over a week span of time..

And then do pest dips on a weekly basis to clear out any flatworms or zoa eating nudis, etc. Treat it as show ciral going into a Show tank.

Anyone try this? Was it a success or failure?

I like the idea, although my lfs seems to have a theory of coraline growing at different depths being different colors green being the highest light coralline purple lower red being lowest. Can't say I buy it but it would make some sense. It may encourage more growth of one type of algae over another with high light in those containers.

Hello Farkwar, please post a follow-up if you do it. I was thinking of doing the same thing pretty soon myself. I was just going to use these big blue plastic containers my wife got from Wal-mart and covering it with a piece of plexiglass. And I was thinking more like a month or better outside. Just to try something out, and to have live rock ready for a renovate on my rock-scape.
