Angeles Posted August 24, 2014 Share Posted August 24, 2014 Last week I witnessed a dwarf cerith snail fall off of my front glass and into the mouth of my open brain. I thought that it would be able to spit it out without help, but I may have been wrong... Last night, before I turned out the lights, my open brain was very shriveled, and I saw a snail shell in its mouth. I was being pushed out, but it looks like with much difficulty. This morning, after turning on the lights, I saw the tip of the shell again being slowly pushed up, but then sink back down into the mouth. What should I do? Should I pull on the visible tip of the snail shell with tweezers? Or will it eventually clear itself out? Link to comment
Psychosis Posted August 24, 2014 Share Posted August 24, 2014 Absolutely do not pull it out with tweezers, that will do far more harm than good. I've had LPS of every description eat Dwarf Cerith, they will eventually spit out the shell. If the condition of the brain deteriorates, you have other options we can address, but for now just let it try and expel the shell the old fashioned way. Link to comment

opaquelace Posted September 1, 2014 Share Posted September 1, 2014 I find after a big meal my open brain coral will sometimes remain small until they take a poop and them they open back up. Give it some more time. I'm sure it's not uncommon for open brain corals and other corals/invertebrates to eat snails in the wild. Link to comment
spazizz Posted September 1, 2014 Share Posted September 1, 2014 Maybe you can attach it to some foam and hang it upside down for couple hours or prop it on side safely to let gravity help it expel the snail. Im not sure how the coral would handle either things though, just an idea. Link to comment
