FishFrog
So our orange plate coral apparently does not like his current spot. He gets really puffy and floats up onto the rocks. We had him on a rock before, but then after reading a lot we decided that he should be on the sand. What is he up to? Do we let it climb onto the rocks? All I can find online is that these plates are best placed on the sand. Other topics all say let them be, but it looks really strange. I suppose if it were happy it would stay put? Link to comment
opaquelace
Let it do what it wants. They'll move to where they are happy. Link to comment
ChickenoftheC
It may be getting too much flow or too little. Or maybe not enough food. Or something could be irritating it. Mine inflate when things bother them. I have 3 on the sand bed and 1 fungia polyp on the rocks. Try to give it just enough flow to make its tentacles move but not so much that it gets blown onto the rocks when it inflates. Maybe that green coral is bugging it. Link to comment
kimberbee
I say let it to what it wants, or try putting it somewhere else you think is "safe." Mine is in the sand right in the front of my tank, he has not moved at all, so I figure he's pretty happy. Link to comment
MikeTR
Yes they'll move on ya. They will actually puff up and flip themselves over and use their tentacles to walk, then flip themselves back. Link to comment

MikeTR
http://reefbuilders.com/2014/01/17/disc-plate-coral-olympics-captured-time-lapse/ not sure why the caption says mushroom coral in the video, but it's clearly a fungia. Link to comment
FishFrog
Thanks for all the replies guys! We will leave it for now and see what happens. I just can't believe how big it gets. Luckily it is flat again now. Link to comment
