Skimmer Magnet

I put an Eshopps nano skimmer in the middle chamber of my BioCube last weekend.

It seems like the magnet is barely strong enough to keep the silly thing in place.

I do have my water level only about an inch above the max line, which is just enough to cover the skimmer pump. However, when I turn my pumps off for dinner time, the water level in the left and middle chambers rises, and I have to pull the skimmer up otherwise the collection cup gets covered. It's difficult to get my hands down in the chambers and the magnet starts sliding around and letting go of the skimmer.

Obviously the first step would be to raise the water level and set the skimmer up higher, but as I said, the magnet doesn't seem very strong and I'm worried it would just "sink" back down.

Is there anything I can use to help hold it in place? My initial idea would be to hook a piece of wire around the skimmer and over the edge of the tank, but that could rust. Or should I be fine if I raise the water level?

I'd set the water level to what they reccomend. And set the return pump on the same switch as the skimmer for "dinner time" that way you are not constantly adjusting the skimmer and so you can correctly tune it. I wouldn't use wire but if you absolutely need to zip ties will work well!

Zip ties!! That definitely wouldn't rust and cause issues...

My pump was actually hardwired into the BioCube hood so there's a switch on the top of the hood I flip whenever I need to. It was actually SUPER handy, up until I got the skimmer.

I really should re-run and organize my wires, since I've already filled up one power strip that's mounted inside the stand, and I'm spilling over into another outlet in the room. Probably would make my life easier...
