GHill762
there's a really cool setup for sale in the hardware section right now.. basically a hole with a screen over it.. you have to cover the hole somehow, a straight open hole will get snails, fish, etc stuck in it.. Link to comment

Scorched
You have to drill the holes as high as you feel comfortable and the noise is dependent on how high the water is in your display. With it covering 2/3 of the bulkhead it can be completely silent. If it covers 3/4 of the bulkhead there will be a fight between air and water entering the pipe and it will gurgle. And if your pump is pushing too much water into your display you will have a yoyo flushing sound. The bulkheads won't stabilize the excess water and they will become completely covered, it will look like your tank will overflow but once the bulkheads become completely covered in water they form siphons and suck in water really fast and there will be a rush of air shortly after causing noise and stoping the siphon. This will then happen over and over until the pump is turned down. Link to comment
Justind823
On my 5G I took off my glass-holes overflow and was just running the bulkhead with a 90 degree bend pvc in place of the overflow. It was about as quiet as the GH overflow. As long as there isn't much turnover it can be just as silent. Link to comment
