I was wondering where people maintained their Alkalinity at? If your Alkalinity is at a strange level (like really low or really high), why do you keep it there and what kind of tank do you have?

If you have to convert:

1ppm = 0.056 dKH

1 meq/l = 2.8 dKH

I'll venture a guess and say that this is largely a function of the ultra-common question: "what kind of salt do you use?"

For the record, I keep mine at ~11 because thats what RSCP salt mixes to haha

EDIT: I keep a mixed tank.

I use instant ocean reef crystals and my alkalinity runs high. It was 12.8 yesterday after a water change. My Ca also runs high at 495 but my Mg is fine at 1350. Hopefully the addition of some more LPS and SPS will bring those levels down.

I have no idea, don't have any test kits and don't plan on getting any.

i was gonna give you some smart ass responds but seeing youve been on here long enough and had a featured reef, Im sure you know what your doing.

Thinking about it....I cant remember when was the last time I tested my tank for calc, alk and mg...Im getting back into it cuz I bought an automatic doser so at least I want to know im not over dosing my tank.

I like to keep my Alk at 9 to 9.5dkH. I find my acros look better at that level. But the main thing is to keep it consistent and avoid wild Alk swings.

Like you disaster999, I also bought a doser so I don't have to manually dose. I bought a Jebao DP4 for under $150 shipped!
