10 Days into Cycle - No Ammonia, Nitrite or Nitrate

I've been wondering if I did something wrong or I should add another source of ammonia. Below is the background for this tank.

16 Gallon Nuvo was set up on 8/8/14 with Marco's dry rock and 20lbs of Caribsea Alive Pink Fiji. The same day, I threw a piece of raw shrimp, about the size of a quarter into the tank. It's been 10 days since and using the API test, I don't see any ammonia, nitrite or nitrate.

I wanted to know if I should take another approach? Or am I just impatient?

I did not want to use any live rock...

Thanks.

Thanks guys! Couldn't find a timeline of when I should expect ammonia to show up.

The shrimp is definitely decomposed into a mushy ball, so I thought the ammonia would be here by now. saltwater noob here.

I would think the ammonia would be there if the shrimp is decomposed. Bad test kit maybe?

Would there be a way to test that? I actually ended up ordering Dr. Tim's One and Only with the Ammonia Chloride... Perhaps run a test with that ammonia source?

The shrimp is definitely decomposed... it's ugly and mushy.

I use the API test kit...
