where do copepods come from?

I had two "new" experiences in the saltwater hobby today. I discovered my first aiptasia (hitchhiked on a plug... I removed the whole plug from the tank), and then when my lights went out this evening, I saw my possum wrasse picking at something in the water column... To my surprise, they were copepods!

I've never seen them in the tank before. I know they normally get into a tank initially through rock/sand, but I started with dry both and the tanks been running since January. So could I have gotten them from coral frags? Besides my fish, they're the only new things in my tank! Or have they been there, but just flourished to numbers that I could see?

I know nothing about these little guys (except that lots of fish like to eat them), so lay some knowledge on me!

As long as there is a food supply, they will continue to reproduce in your tank. However, predators (like your wrasse) will probably keep the population fairly low.

Well, when a mommy copepod and a daddy copepod love each other very much...

They will have baby pods, but too many can be bothersome, then there have to rely on food stamps and wic, then they'll be broke and selling their podginas on the street tryna make ends meet.
