Noobie - help with setting up skimmer

Hi guys,

 

I am new to marines, wanted to do it for years after having kept tropicals for years. I still have a 350 litre tropical tank but wanted to try out a small marine tank (for now!)

 

Anyway the tank i have is the aqua one aquastart 500, all stock parts. Everything is setup fine however i am unsure how to get the protein skimmer running, done everything it says in the manual, however it says nothing about adding water to the skimmer, do i need to do this?

 

The skimmer model is the nano skim 90

Is this the Aqua One nano skim 90 that hangs on the back of the aquarium? If so, I would add water to the skimmer to help it prime. If its the skimmer I think it is, I would treat it like a hang on the back filter. Adding water will assist it working properly. Hope this helps and welcome to the marine aquarium environment.

Hello, yes it is the one which sits on the back of the tank. Cheers i will try adding water to it
