First nano reef - 15 gallon column (13" sq x 19" t)

I'm looking for a broad variety of softies and leathers, but not sure how led's work.

I am very interested in the cree diy setup, but how many lights do i need based on my tank size. Are heat sinks necessary, what sort of power do i need and how should i wire them.

Also, if possible, i would like to keep my existing light enclosure built in hood that is currently housing 1x12" T5 which is 12.25"W x 4.75"L

Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Lets see.

Maybe a tiny evil cluster is possible.

Something like one of these for a neutral white base

One of these tuned to preference for royal blue.

One each of these to balance out the royal blue and enhance perceived color/color rendition.

Two each of these for violet

This for drivers to mount on

for drivers you want three meanwell ldd-1000H (royal blue, cool blue, and lime) and two meanwell ldd-700H (neutral white and violet).
purchase here: http://coralux.net/?wpsc-product=meanwell-ldd-h-driver

For power to the board use this:

Use this controller:

This case is optional but i prefer not having exposed circuit boards. Especially the ones i need to interact with regularly.

This may be a little much for softies but it should be able to punch through the depth to the sandbed which is the primary challenge for this tank.

You will also need a heatsink and fans. Need more details on available space for recommending those.

Alternatively one or two of Dave's 13up boards may be capable here. Not sure if it's strong enough to punch that depth.

Awesome setup, thanks for the advice. I have 1.5" depth play on canopy. I was hoping to build inside existing enclosure with splash guard. Dimensions of it are in first post. Again the 1.5" is still depth play. Also, i am on a budget of about 140.00

Is that the 15 gallon tall tank like they have at Petco? It sure sounds like it.

If so, yank that existing lighting junk out. Thats not T5, thats T5hit.

Get a good sized heatsink, 120mm fan. Put one or two of Daves pucks on the heatsink. Power supplies and a timer.

Less than 140 with one puck.

And mount the heatsink away from the plastic top, it will probably warp if you dont.

I can manage 2.25. 3/4" is a good but i can always build a canopy. Thanks.

If this is the tank I think it is, you may already want to remove that puke brown plastic lid.

Very easy to remake it in black cell cast acrylic, real oak, maple or mohagony.

The base is going to be the hard part replacing. Ive looked at this tank a few times, with almost buy each time. That base is what kills the deal for me.
