cindyp
This is partially myth. When a sponge is removed from the water, air gets trapped inside some of the pores. Usually the air can make its way out without much trouble, though, so exposing it to air doesn't really ring the death knell. My live rock from the Keys was shipped dry and was covered in sponges, all of which are still with me today. I too have sponges that I have exposed to the air and they are fine. i've actually read online during research that sometimes they grow back more fiercely after air exposure. take for it what you will. i like to hack things off if i can. favorite past time as a hobbyist. ha! That depends on the pests....bubble algae - yes....aiptasia - no way! i actually had to ditch my last 3g due to red and green hair algae issue. of course, the set up was not fantastic anyway, probably a phosphate toilet was what it was. ha! I know pico tanks present their own challenges so I can't imagine a 3 gallon. I have never had a saltwater tank smaller than 37 gallons. You are doing fantastic with your present tank! You are doing fantastic with your present tank! thank you, v! the issue was that i was using media like ceramic stuff in the back--which was great when it was a tetra tank, but not so ideal for saltwater. it was my first noobie tank, and this is my second. ha! learning as i go for certain. cindyp
hello friends! busy busy over here. trying to revise an unsold novel, and the kids had their huge science fair projects due this week, etc. etc. i treated myself to a new yuma! i had a purple one that was doing well, but then just up and melted. so it took me a while to want to try again. i love this one though. and here is wilma from an interesting angle! my dendro is going loco today! he hasn't been so flamboyant for a while. ha! wilma is NOT a photobomber like fred loved to be, so i wait and see where i can catch her in a frame. cindyp
Nice yuma! Did you get that at ASD? of course! ha Link to comment
DocReef
Haha I'm gonna have to drop by soon. Have you seen any the corals they had for that huge $5 frag sale or whatever it was to get rid of their bleached stock? I got some of those bleached frags. Lesson learned. Link to comment
cindyp
What do you mean? Are they really messed up? i don't look at the sticks. ha! but there are a lot and they are bleached out. the local forum have gone in to pick up and it also included zoas and lps, ASD choice. so you don't get to choose. they've said the acros are really bleached but many of them also said polyps extended. would take a few months to get color back into them--assuming you know what you're doing. will said they had gotten too much light or some such. cindyp
i noticed this morning that my new yuma has a neon green mouth? so i took a foto. but i can't see it now?? and maybe i was wrong about wilma not photobombing? ha! Link to comment

cindyp
Maybe she just needed to come out of her shell? she is actually out and about all day long, pecking around for food, the piggy! but she does hide to sleep, and she also hides when i open the lid, which is good, because she is a jumper! DocReef
What do you mean? Are they really messed up? They are still alive, but definitely bleached. I have most in a shady area of the tank, hopefully they'll recover. Like Cindy said, it's their choice, so I can't really see what they look like when I get them since they're usually closed up. Their SPS, and some Zoas are the ones that are usually bleached. Also, a lot of the live sale frags are fresh cuts and haven't healed from what I've noticed. I've found flat worms on some SPS frags as well. If the price is too good to be true, then it's probably for a reason. There's no denying that they have nice stuff though. I'll stick to buying my frags the old fashion way and pick them out myself, even if I have to pay a bit more. Link to comment

cindyp
Wilma is so cute! Is your gbg still mia?? yeah. i have to assume he is DED. there are no predators in the tank though? i saw him the first 6-10 hours and then he disappeared. since then, i've done some MAJOR rock rescaping and never seen him. boo. wilma is doing great though, thanks! <3 Link to comment
cindyp
a little annoyed. Big Red has walked all over this rock and dropped at least 5 babies (you see four of them in foto, i believe) but also has proceeded to smother a nice gold iron mushroom right beneath it. i've seen the iron man try to stretch into the light, etc. but sometimes it's just shrunken and sad. i wish it'd walk out from beneath Big Red's shadow, but what can you do? you can see my naked duster in the forefront with my super saiyan zoas--haven't grown at all, but incredibly, not dead. ha! although the one closed one looked weird after my tank cleaning today. we'll see.
